Selection | Measurement | Fabrication | Installation | Stone Care

Now comes your part. To keep your stone looking new, here are a few things to keep in mind in order to properly care for your investment:

· Most mineral surfaces are porous and act like a sponge in the presence of moisture and fluids. Since most natural stones are by no means impervious to staining, a penetrating sealer is applied at the time of fabrication in the warehouse prior to installation for protection. However natural stones are still susceptible to staining. Therefore natural stone and grout should be sealed every 8-12 months to help prevent any staining.

· If a stain is apparent in the stone, it can be removed with a stone removal powder. Please contact your World Stone representative if this occurs and we will be happy to recommend a product or service to you.

· Popular products that can damage stone surfaces include but are not limited to: juices, shaving cream, alcoholic beverages, soda, perfumes/cologne, nail polish remover, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, dishwashing soap, hair perm chemicals, shampoos and body soaps that contain EDTA, rock salt, sand, toothpaste, toilet bowl cleaners, and any fluid that contains acid or alkali.

· Use warm soap and water and a dry cloth to clean your countertops. If you would like to use a natural stone care cleaning product, one can be recommended to you.

· Pick up spills immediately to prevent staining and etching. · Use coasters under drink glasses to help prevent glass rings from occurring.

· Always remove loose debris from stone surfaces to prevent scratching.

· Sweep entrances weekly and supply entrance matting floors to keep outside sediment off the stone. Vacuum entrance mats weekly.

· When mopping stone floors, change the buckets solution every 500 square feet because dirty water can stain the stone and grout.

· Dust mop stone surfaces at least twice a week.

Before the fabrication process begins, World Stone invites all customers to view the actual slabs that are designated for their project. At this point the measurements and templates are entered into a computer,
which in turn feeds the information into one of our state of the art cutting machines. These machines use diamond tipped wheels to cut and polish your stone to the exact specifications. Once again customers are invited to come in and watch this process from our viewing room.

Your completed stone countertop will be transported to your location and installed by our professional in-house installers. By using our own installers we can guarantee quality, timeliness and the professionalism of the work. The countertops are leveled and then adhered to the cabinets. Some installations require pieces of finished stone to be fit together creating a seam. World Stone uses a colored epoxy for its seams to match the natural color of the countertops in order to minimize the seams visibility. After completion, World Stone professionals apply silicone sealer to the tops to protect the stone.

Selection | Measurement | Fabrication | Installation | Stone Care

The next phase in the process is to measure and template your kitchen or bath. This provides an exact outline of the natural stone that is going to be installed. Templating not only provides us with the best representation of how the stone need to be cut but it also provides you with a physical layout of the stone. Therefore all cabinets must be in place before this phase can proceed. The templating is done by our in-house professionals using materials that can represent the actual stone. This is important for gauging subtleties like radius corners and overhang issues. Ideally the homeowner should be present during this layout phase of the process.

Selection | Measurement | Fabrication | Installation | Stone Care

The process of putting natural stone into your home or business begins with the selection of natural stone and the color of that stone. This can be one of the most time consuming parts of the entire process due to wide variety of stones from which to choose; World Stone has to over 500 different types and colors of natural stone. Below is list of things to consider during your selection process:

Thickness – All natural stone comes in varied thickness, generally ranging from 2cm to 3cm.

Slabs vs Tile - Natural stone comes in large slabs approximately 10 feet by 5 feet or in tiles of various sizes.

Edge work – Several profiles of edges can be cut to your specification. Please refer to the Types of Edges section for information about edges.

Color – Color of natural stone is limited only by your imagination.

Budget – The cost of natural stone is influenced by several factors, including location of the quarry, availability, fortitude and others. The more expensive stones can be up to twice as expensive as the lesser expensive stones.

Type of Application – Certain stones are better suited for certain applications. For example, due to its durability and resistance to scratching, staining, and heat, we recommend granite in the kitchen. Consult your World Stone representative about the best applications for a given stone.
