Quartzite Characteristics & Expectations
Quartzite is a beautiful, natural stone prized for its unique appearance and durability. However, it also has characteristics that differ from granite and engineered quartz. Understanding these natural properties helps set realistic expectations for fabrication and installation.
Brittle Nature: Although extremely hard, quartzite is also more brittle than many other natural stones. This makes it more susceptible to chipping, cracking, or breakage during fabrication, transportation, and installation.
Extended Fabrication Time: Due to its exceptional hardness and brittleness, quartzite requires specialized tooling and additional fabrication time compared to most other countertop materials.
Mitered Edges: Creating mitered edges in quartzite can result in small chips that are a normal part of the fabrication process. Our craftsmen use professional repair techniques and color-matched adhesives to blend these areas as seamlessly as possible.
Repairs During Fabrication: Minor repairs, resin fills, or adhesive joints are standard industry practice when working with natural quartzite. These repairs do not compromise the structural integrity or performance of the stone. Depending on the color, pattern, and lighting, some repairs or glue lines may remain slightly visible.
Quartzite is a natural product, and every slab is unique. Natural variations, along with the fabrication techniques required to work with this material, are normal characteristics of quartzite and should be expected.
